Euphemisms also replace taboo words: mentioning the name of God in vain is considered a sin, so instead of “God”, the English say “Goodness! Goodness gracious! ”, living in the taiga -“ owner ”instead of“ bear ”, doctors and simply superstitious people -“ lethal outcome ”instead of“ death ”,“ neoplasm ”instead of“ tumor ”or“ cancer ”.
